The Revolution Will Not Be Tweeted…

punditman says...When you look for evidence of creeping fascism, sometimes you have to take a closer look at our brave new world. Here's an interesting article that ends up equating P2P file sharing with activists who monitored police scanners at the recent G-20 summit and told other demonstrators about police movements via Twitter—and got themselves arrested. Some might say they should have been arrested. But what if the police were acting illegally? What if the governments of the G-20 were acting like criminals? Who are the real crooks here. What if punditman forgot a question mark or three. Is that a crime.

New technologies, old battles. What will happen to the Pittsburgh Two? From Iran to the US, apparently the Revolution will not be tweeted...

… at least not if “law enforcers” get their way.

During the G-20 summit in the Pittsburgh area last week, police arrested two activists. These particular activists weren’t breaking windows. They weren’t setting cars on fire. They weren’t even parading around brandishing giant puppets and chanting anti-capitalist slogans.

In fact, they were in a hotel room in Kennedy, Pennsylvania, miles away from “unsanctioned” protests in Lawrenceville … listening to the radio and availing themselves of the hotel’s Wi-Fi connection. Now they stand accused of “hindering apprehension, criminal use of a communication facility and possessing instruments of crime.”

The radio they were listening to was (allegedly) a police scanner. They were (allegedly) using their Internet access to broadcast bulletins about police movements in Lawrenceville to activists at the protests, using Twitter.

Is that a crime? Should it be a crime?

Bracing for New Protests, Iran Issues Media Warning

Does anyone think that world governments aren't watching and taking notes about how the Iranian protests play out. The Internet and cell phones are playing a huge role in keeping the protests going.

Peacenik thinks this bodes very badly for the future of an open Internet. Twitter has become a revolutionary tool. As has texting. Controlling and shutting down Twitter and texting will be part of supressing the protests. How free is the Internet? How easy would it be to shut it down? How secure is it? Peacenik thinks the days of access to things like Twitter and texting may be numbered. And not just in Iran. Peacenik is reading up on smoke signals and carrier pigeons.

Bracing for New Protests, Iran Issues Media Warning

TEHRAN — In face of a growing official campaign to disrupt channels of dissent with arrests and restrictions, Tehran braced for a third day of defiance by opposition supporters on Wednesday after Iran’s leaders failed to halt huge demonstrations against last week’s disputed election results.

Placed on the defensive by the biggest demonstrations since the Islamic revolution in 1979, the authorities on Tuesday offered a concession to the sustained rage here, saying they would allow a limited recount of the vote — an offer that was resoundingly rejected.

10 reasons Terminators destroy 'Twitter-brains'

Hypnotized, you'll forget dot-coms, subprimes, the next Great Depression

By Paul B. Farrell, MarketWatch

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. (MarketWatch) -- In the next "Terminator" sequel, Skynet will "send back" a new, more dangerous "Terminator," not another titanium killing machine but "Twitter Code." And after that, the "Tweet Code" will further limit communications between humanoids, from 140 words to 17 syllables, the length of a Zen koan but without the wisdom.

Two more Skynet weapons further controlling us, destroying our humanity.

Why Twitter, why Tweet? Because both reflect a disturbing trend, the rapidly decreasing attention span and intelligence of the human brain. It's no match for Wall Street's version of the "Terminator's" Skynet that is rapidly expanding it's dominance over the public.

Seriously, Wall Street's Skynet has access to massive data bases on the behavior patterns of all humanoids: Transactions on securities, credit cards, loans, taxes, telephone calls, internet, and soon, all medical records, plus a financial innovation arsenal of quant algorithms and the K-Street network of 42,000 lobbyists gives Wall Street Skynet control of government, and absolute control of investors and our so-called democracy.

This article has a certain appropriateness given the trouble Schwarzenegger is having in California. Peacenik likes the Terminator movies. And this is as good an explanation as any for what is going on. This is as good an explanation as any for why people can't remember yesterday. And it is as good an explanation as any for why Cramer was braying about a new bull market. It is Skynet. The world is at war.
