I guess this is how you do it. A coup that is. Peacenik guesses that Manuel Zelaya doesn't have a hope in hell of returning to power. Not with Lanny Davis greasing the skids for the Honduran military. The oleaginous Lanny Davis was a primary media defender of Bill Clinton's blow job. He also was a big defender of George Bush and Joe Lieberman. oh, did Peacenik mention that Lanny was George Bush's roommate in university. Oh yeah and they're all Skull and Bones guys. Peacenik wonders why society even bothers with the pretence of democracy. It doesn't exist.

Supporters of the coup in Honduras have begun hiring advisers and lobbyists with close ties to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in an attempt to strengthen support in Washington for the coup. A Honduran business group has hired lobbyist Lanny Davis, who served as White House counsel for President Bill Clinton. White House plans new executive role to challenge corrupt government in Kabul

The US and its European allies are ­preparing to plant a high-profile figure in the heart of the Kabul government in a direct challenge to the Afghan president, Hamid Karzai, the Guardian has learned.

The creation of a new chief executive or prime ministerial role is aimed at bypassing Karzai. In a further dilution of his power, it is proposed that money be diverted from the Kabul government to the provinces. Many US and European officials have become disillusioned with the extent of the corruption and incompetence in the Karzai government, but most now believe there are no credible alternatives, and predict the Afghan president will win re-election in August.

Remember all that talk by our Prime Minister Harper about how democracy was being restored in Ahghanistan.? Remember how Karzai attended Bush's "State of the Union Address"? Karzai sat with Laura Bush forchrissakes. Remember how Karzai addressed a joint session of Congress and virtually campaigned for Bush's re-election.? Remember all those purple fingers? And all the schools and water filtration plants the West was supposedly building? Remember how women were being emancipated in Afghanistan.? Remember how NATO's mission in Afghanistan was crucial to Canada's security.?

Fergeddaboutit. All that was simply bullshit. Karzai never had any popular support. He was a former CIA retainee ferchrissakes. Needed a brigade of Blackwater mercenaries to just keep him alive in Kabul. So remember readers: when Harper or Bush/Obama tell you anything about Afghanistan, they are lying. Peacenik says bring the troops home now.

U.S. makes mockery of Afghan democracy-ousted MP

The United States is making a mockery of democracy and the war on terrorism by supporting corrupt Afghan lawmakers who are criminals and warlords, said an outspoken female Afghan politician, who was removed from parliament.

Malalai Joya, 29, was effectively expelled last month when the lower house of parliament voted to suspend her for the remaining 3 1/2 years of her term after she described the legislative body as "worse than a stable" during an interview.

Washington "supports the same enemies, who are mentally like the Taliban. ... They brought them back into power," soft-spoken Joya told Reuters in an interview during a visit to the United States.

The above link begins to tell the story of the West's glorious quest to install "democracy" in Afghanistan from the point of view of a woman MP who has been threatened and ousted from the Afghan parliament.

Yet voices such as Malalai Joya get little play in Western media. Instead it's all good guys vs. bad guys, as they interview army generals who merely echo the platitudes of their political masters in Washington, Ottawa, etc.
